"New Releases" is the theme of our Santa Barbara Vintners Spring Festival, and the theme of our open house and Wine Club Release Party on April 21 and 23, from 11am to 2pm. We will showcase these three new releases, and several gems from our library of Pinot Noirs: 2008 Bien Nacido, 2006 Sanford & Benedict, and 2006 Oregon. All these wines accompanied by an assortment of grilled specialties from Hitching Post II: Grilled Corn Quesadillas, Grilled Rib Eye Tacos, Spicy Chicken Sausages, HP Sliders, and French /Fries.

Club Shipment Announcement 

It is spring and a time for renewal, and time for new releases. Our April Wine Club is three new releases that represent some of the best wines we have made. 2016 pinks Dry Rose, 2014 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido, and 2014 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict.

2016 PINKS Dry Rose $16.50 Club Price $12.19
The stars were in alignment with the 2016 harvest, as these grapes came in together so this 80% Valdiguie (French Camp Vineyard) and 20% Pinot Noir (Rio Vista and Kick On Vineyard) were brought in together to barrel ferment and barrel age on its lees.The Valdiguie was pressed gently especially to create this rose, and the Pinot Noir juice was separated before the destemmer to insure a light color and elegant expression in the ultimate wine. Slightly lighter in color than previous Pinks by design, this wine approaches our goal to make crisp, lively, fruity dry rose, in an elegant and complete expression. We are very proud of this one! 

2014 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido $52 Club Price $39
This being our 25th vintage of Bien Nacido, this bottling represent one of the most balanced and elegant versions we have created from this fantastic vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. 50% newer planting of clone 777 brings elegance and a racy energy, and the old vine Pommard & Martini clones add spicy rich flavors. The combination results in a lower alcohol expression (about 13%) that is poised and compact while still showing the stuffing to develop over time. This is more in the "low alcohol" camp that many new winemakers espouse to, but well within our idea of balance and intensity to enjoy now, and to watch as it grows up over time. 

2014 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict $52, Club Price $39
Our last vintage of S&B was 2006. We graciously gave up our position as there was high demand and the grapes commanded a very high price. Sanford Winery has put in new plantings, and now can sell more grapes, and 2014 was our 1st chance back in. We get clones 667 and 777 from plantings of 2008, wonderfully situated with north/south orientation on the upper hills near the old winery. The soil is amazing, with lots of Monterey shale gravel in a well-drained loamy soil. This is in a bigger, more brooding, and broader style that emphasizes earthiness and dark blackberry fruit. It clocks in at 14% alcohol, at the upper limit of what we consider balanced nowadays.  After reviewing 30 vintages of HP Pinots from this property last summer, we are sure this one will provide lots of enjoyment now, and for many years to come.
